child speaking to doctor with family

Teens being angsty and moody is quite cliché; teenage years are full of drama and emotions and not every teenager has the stability to pull through successfully.

Over the years, the rate of depression amongst teenagers has hiked tremendously with the prevalence higher in girls than boys. This hike in anxiety and depression that came with technology indicates that cyber bullying is a major factor in triggering anxiety and depression in teenagers.

Every teenager has a mobile phone and a computer and it is well known that most teenagers spend a lot of time on their phone, texting and posting pictures and believes on several social media platforms. From the malicious comments we see under facebook, twitter and instagram posts daily, it is evident that technology has paved way for cyber bullying which affects the mental health of teenagers. A whole lot of body shaming and slut shaming happen on the internet everyday but instead of talking to someone about this, teenagers who are affected feel like outcasts and might go as far as causing bodily harm to themselves or committing suicide in extreme cases.

Despite the fact that the science on technology and teenage angst and anxiety is incomplete, it is already known that having an all-time- access to the internet might just be dousing fuel on a glowing splint.
