We have changed along with technology. In what ways has this affected our sense of time, happiness, and sense of being?

Things evolve when change is enforced upon them, whether it is their environment that alters or any other situation in which the requirements change. If we are to observe the development of technology then this statement has proven to be somewhat true, it is a common theme that occurs whenever one aspect of our life needs to be upgraded. We humans are one of those species that have survived this planet and continued to make progress on the scale of evolution. Since the advent of technology, humans have made considerable breakthroughs.

Let us begin with a subtle view of our timeline, earlier humans lived in harsh conditions so for their sustenance they learned to hunt, gather and craft primal tools, we evolved from that and moved to advanced methods such as farming and trade, from that we moved towards the industrial revolution that enhanced the influence of advanced machinery throughout the globe and since then we have continued to pour our efforts into these tools. Because of its complexity, technology is a field that requires a lot of time, resources and dedication. It differs from the earlier days when humans had to do basic work hence our focus has been shifted to developing the tools for our survival. It is true that this rigorous development has completely altered the way we think as compared to our ancestors, the change is necessary because that is how we progress as a species.

Some of the ways that technology has altered our behavior is how we react to everything. Experts say that our storage capabilities have been dulled because of the ease and accuracy our mechanical devices provide. In the earlier days, learning by heart was very demanded skill, people used to have entire books or dictionaries in memory, every scholar had this ability. To compensate for this skill, we have access to devices that can store information or simply grant us access to the internet, which itself is an endless supply of data. Thus we became less dependent on our memories and it grew dull because we did not rely on it as much as we did before. Another factor that influences our brain is our attention span, technology has made us impatient and more prone to impulse. Whenever you search something on Google or browse via your social network, you are able to get the answer you want within minutes. You can get an answer to an academic issue or problem via the internet or if you want to know how your friend or cousin is doing then you can contact them via your cellphone or get an idea where they are thanks to the status updates of a social networking site. This has “spoiled” to be impatient when we seek answers, only the more reason why people get angry or annoyed when they are unable to get what they want because in their minds, they know it doesn’t take long for their demands to be satiated.
